Robinsonian and Kaleckian Growth. an Update on Post-keynesian Growth Theories

چکیده
In writing this paper I have benefited from comments by Dieter Gstach and Hansjörg Klausinger. All mistakes are mine. Abstract The aim of the paper is to give an overview over basic models of Post-Keynesian growth theory. Two major families of growth models are discussed, one developed by Joan Robinson, the other by Michal Kalecki. Both share an independent investment function that depends on income distribution and a savings function that depends on income distribution. The core difference that the Robinsonian model assumes full capacity utilization in the long run, while the Kaleckian model has capacity utilization as an endogenous variable. The characteristics of these models and in particular the effects of changes in the savings propensity and the relation between distribution and growth are highlighted and contrasted. A short run Keynes-Kalecki model is as a benchmark case.

An empirical evaluation of three post Keynesian models
Structuralist and post Keynesian models differ in their assumptions about firms’ investment behavior and pricing/output decisions. This paper compares three benchmark models: Kaleckian, Robinsonian and Kaldorian. We analyze the implications of these models for the steady growth path and the cyclical properties of the economy, and evaluate the consistency of the theoretical predictions with empi...
متن کاملTheoretical and empirical shortcomings of the Kaleckian investment function
The speci cation of the accumulation function is critical for the properties and implications of structuralist and post-Keynesian models. A large Kaleckian literature assumes that investment is relatively insensitive to variations in the utilization rate of capital, and this extension of a standard short-run "Keynesian stability condition" to the long run has been defended by Lavoie and Dutt, a...
متن کاملA Keynesian - Kaleckian Model of Investment Determination : A Panel Data Investigation
The undertaken study assesses the empirical merits of the Post Keynesian doctrine as this is reflected by both the Keynesian as well as the Kaleckian theoretical approaches to investment determination. A GMM panel data methodology provides the econometric platform upon which the respective models have been tested. Annual time series data has been used, spanning from 1970 to 2005, for the G7 eco...
متن کاملA Post Keynesian Environmental Macroeconomic Model for Agricultural Water Sustainability under Climate Change in the Murray-Darling Basin, Australia
Climate change has profound consequences for the agriculture of south-eastern Australia and its climate-induced water shortage in the Murray-Darling Basin. Post Keynesian Economics (PKE) macro-dynamics, along with Kaleckian investment and growth theory, are used to develop an ecological-economic system dynamics model of this complex nonlinear river basin system. The MurrayDarling Basin Simulati...
متن کاملMythical ages and methodological strictures - Joan Robinson’s contributions to the theory of economic growth∗
This paper considers some methodological aspects of Joan Robinson’s contribution to post-Keynesian growth theory. Joan Robinson’s criticisms of equilibrium analysis, of the conflation of logical and historical time and of the uses (and misuses) of mathematical formalisation are scathing. But while many of her points are well taken, parts of her argument appear questionable. As a result, her met...
